Work Party for St. John’s Lakeport, Thursday May 5th

Last December, a group of volunteers from St. Luke’s and Grace Church went to St. John’s in Lakeport to provide support for their ministry to victims of the Valley fires. Their food pantry and thrift shop continue to serve the community and would welcome our support. In addition to providing hands to help, they have asked for the following for their thrift store:

• Spring and Summer clothing and shoes for children, women and men
• Housewares
• Food for the pantry*: canned veggies, fruit, soups and spaghetti sauce, rice, boxed milk and cereal.

If you would like to join our caravan to St. John’s and help provide food for a communal lunch on Thursday, May 5th, please contact Deacon Susan Napoliello (susannapoliello@gmail.com or 415-734-1355). We will leave Calistoga at 9:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m.

*Susan will buy the food for the pantry at Costco. If you would like to donate money for the food, please let her know.

Our Beliefs

Our assurance as Christians is that nothing, not even death shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus Our Lord.

Taken from An Outline of the Faith  page 845 The Book of Common Prayer

Q.  What Are we by nature?

A.  We are part of God's creation, made in the image of God.

Q.  What does it mean to be created in the image of God?

A.  It means that we are free to make choices:  to love, to create, to reason, and to live in harmony with creation and with God.

Q  Why then do we live apart from God and out of harmony with creation?

A.  From the beginning, human beings have misused their freedom and made wrong choices.

Q.  What help is there for us?

A.  Our help is in God

Q.  How did God first help us?

A.  God first helped us by revealing himself and his will through nature, and history, though many seers and saints, and especially through the prophets of Israel.

Q.  What is the nature of God revealed in Jesus?

A.  God is love.

Q.  What does this mean?

A.  It means that the universe is good, that it is the work of a single loving God who creates, sustains, and directs it.

Q.  What does it mean about human life?

A.  It means that all people are worthy of respect and honor, because all are created in the image of God, and all can respond to the love of God.

This is a brief outline of some of what we believe, and is not meant to be a complete statement of our faith.   If you seek more information please ask.

What do we mean when we say We Believe Out Loud.

We Believe That...

  • Faith is a journey that reveals the new and unexpected everyday.  Just as Abraham set forth on a journey in response to God’s call, we are travelers on an unknown, wondrous and sometimes frightening path.

  • Each of us is made in God’s image – beautiful and beloved, unique and whole.

  • The greatest commandment is love. We strive to love God with all our hearts, all our minds and all our souls and to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Jesus teaches us to welcome all.  We believe our churches and society should do the same. We work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality because God calls us to do justice and love kindness.

One day, all of us – regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity – will be treated as equals in our families, our churches and our communities.

Until that day, we will raise our Christian voices for love, equality and justice!
